A Whole Lot Of Baggage

November 26, 2018

Getting ready to go abroad? What would you say is the most important bit of kit you need? That’s right… A TRAVEL BAG.

This trusting piece of equipment will be your best friend for however long you choose to travel for, whether it is a short holiday or a working holiday visa (WHV) to Australia like ourselves. Either way you will want the most suitable bit of kit.

But what do you choose… do you go for a;

  • Top loader

  • Wheeled duffels

  • Wheeled backpack

  • Standard Backpack

  • Suitcase

…. I know what you’re thinking, ‘AHHHH TOO MUCH CHOICE’ well hopefully Bethan and I can help with some of that stress!

STEP 1

Firstly, do some research, then some more… and then EVEN MORE!!

Something that we found helped us out was YouTube. Being able to just quickly search what other peoples experiences were and to see the final bag they ended up choosing, really aids you to narrow down your choices.

I will leave some links below of some channels that saw us through.

STEP 2

Does size really matter? Apon some research, it seems as though several people tend to say that a larger size of bag is not always the way to go, so you might need to leave those extra luxuries at home and potentially need to wash your clothes more often, unless your comfortable turning things inside out and being smelly. (Think of those poor hostel roommates) But they are just some of the cons.

Pros for a smaller bag are just that it will be more portable and is likely to be more comfortable

STEP 3

Practicality is key! If your trip involves a lot of hiking or trekking on uneven ground, the last thing you need is a suitcase that’s loosing wheels in every crack or flipping itself over every bump in the road. Find yourselves a backpack that’s durable, waterproof, good quality and easy to find your stuff within. We recommend the Osprey Fairview 70 for Women or the Opsrey Farpoint 70 for Men. This particular bag opens on the side like a suitcase as oppose to at the top. That way, there’s rummaging or pulling all of your belonging out, just to find that t-shirt you wanted at the bottom of your bag! The Fairview and Farpoint are designed specifically for the build of either a man or women, making the bag perfectly molded to your back. Check out the links attached for more info!

STEP 4

Purchase that perfect bag, treat it like your baby, and wear it around the house 24/7 to practice your backpackers strut!
